Hello, my name is Janet aka JannnJammm. I was born and raised in San Diego, particularly in the Eastern parts. I grew up in a small neighborhood around the Encanto/Lemon Grove area, where I still reside. San Diego will always be my home and safe place. I studied at UCSD and obtained a Political Science-International Relations degree with minors in Mathematics and Philosophy in 2020. I like learning and observation. I’m often alone in thought. I rather be outside in the sun than inside. Cooking good food, exploring all music, and sleep are in my normal routines. I love my family, my cats, and my plants. I find myself thinking differently from most others, which has made it difficult to find a way on Earth. My art helps me escape those ruminating thoughts and clarify my feelings. I’ve always appreciated logic and science but my paintings touch on philosophical and emotional elements that cannot be explained.
My style is heavily influenced by surrealism and collage work. I daydream about the visual representations of feelings, situations, phenomena that naturally brought onto our lives. Just as life swings like a pendulum, as do the themes of my artwork. We go through moments of happiness and fun as well as moments of grief and loss. I like to believe my artwork is a reflection of that. Dark, weird, fun, yet happy, colorful, bright. Metaphors and similes are some literary themes I like to encompass into my visuals.
